Desafio BAT Brasil:
BAT – ESG Fleet Shift: Electric Vehicle Enablement

descrição
CHALLENGE
Despite BAT’s strong commitment to ESG goals, transitioning the logistics fleet to electric vehicles (EVs) remains challenging due to Brazil’s limited charging infrastructure. Currently, the most viable opportunities involve BAT-owned vans and trucks operated by third-party logistics providers. However, many drivers take these vehicles home, where they lack access and time to charge regularly. As a result, large-scale electrification is financially and operationally unviable under current conditions.
COUNTRY
Brazil, with potential expansion to other Latam South countries.
PAIN POINT
Lack of public and private charging infrastructure.
Operational routines that hinder regular vehicle charging.
Limited visibility into feasible electrification routes.
Financial and logistical barriers to scale EV adoption.
KEY CRITERIA
Deployment of charging infrastructure (at BAT sites or partner locations)
Route and usage analysis to identify electrification opportunities
Cost-benefit analysis vs. combustion fleet
Scalable implementation models (leasing, shared infrastructure, etc.)
Supportive technologies (route planners, mobile chargers, optimization tools)
Full alignment with BAT’s ESG and operational objectives
EXPECTED OUTCOMES
Identification of viable electrification routes and use cases
Initial deployment of electric vans with logistical support
Infrastructure roadmap for gradual electrification
Reduced CO₂ emissions and enhanced ESG compliance
Engagement of logistics partners in the transition strategy
Foundational data to support regional scale-up
BUSINESS CONTEXT & OBJECTIVES
The Procurement, Logistics, and ESG teams are jointly seeking innovative and pragmatic solutions to accelerate EV adoption in BAT’s logistics operations. While sustainability is a priority, real-world constraints call for flexible and collaborative models that drive feasible electrification — especially through partnerships with logistics providers.
We are open to infrastructure providers, route planning solutions, shared business models, and innovative approaches that fit Brazil’s operational landscape.
TARGET AUDIENCE
Procurement, Facilities, Fleet, Logistics, and Operations teams
SCOPE / LOCATION
Focus on major logistics hubs, including São Paulo and Uberlândia (CIDs and key routes)
KPIs
Number of EVs deployed
CO₂ emissions reduction per route
Number of electrification-feasible routes
Cost per km (electric vs. combustion)
Logistics partners engaged
Charging uptime and availability
TIMELINE
Solution scouting & analysis: Q3 2025
Proof of concept / pilots: Q1 2026
Expansion / implementation: Q2 2026
FINAL THOUGHTS
We are committed to driving our ESG agenda forward and recognize the electrification of our logistics fleet as a key enabler. We seek creative, data-driven, and infrastructure-ready partners who can help make this transition viable and scalable within Brazil’s unique operational context.
